T he clients had been searching for the perfect family home for some time, before they found their forever home. They immediately fell in love with the character and charm of this well-built home and knew with some updating, they could achieve their dream of a home that would meet their needs for their own family, large family gatherings and entertaining.
Due to the home’s age, the question became how much to keep and how much to change, without completely gutting or stripping the space. These were critical decisions that the clients asked Parkyn Design to assist with.
The Parkyn Design team assessed the home and decided on a direction that would incorporate existing features with new and fresh looks, giving it a classic meets contemporary look. The living room fireplace was kept, but the surroundings were replaced with cork and a contemporary marble mantel. By contrast, the dining room fireplace was left as is because of its ornate and intricate details. The tension caused by these two contrasts were part of what made this home so unique.
Other updates included new lighting, drapery and painting throughout. Custom furniture, including a console with tucked away benches for extra seating, and custom rugs helped to ooze elegance and luxury, all while maintaining comforting and relaxing spaces. Also used were vintage mirrors, velvet, leathers and jacquard fabrics.
The clients forever home was a classic, luxury home that was updated, multi-functional and comfortable. When walking into this home, there is certainly something magical and captivating about it.
