T he family of this home was looking for a major change. They had to pick between moving into a new place or completely redesigning their outdated one. After taking a quick walk through the clients existing home, The Design Co. team were able to tell right away that the house had incredible bones and a lot of potential. This traditional Forest Hill home was transformed into a comfortable and chic space, perfect for entertaining friends and family.
Knowing that the client was going to be purchasing a baby grand piano, The Design Co. team made sure to design around that focal point. Specific pieces from the client’s extensive art collection were also chosen and strategically placed throughout the room. With the intention of making the room feel bigger and to reflect the artwork, mirrored panels were added on either side of the fireplace.
The design team added an oversized mirror for drama and to make the room seem larger, while the extendable dining table was perfect for the growing family and dinner parties. By mixing metals and adding a dramatic gold pendant, a pop of contrast was added to the otherwise neutral palette. Storage space was important for the client, so a cerused oak credenza was added for beauty and function.
Comfort was a priority for this room, especially for a family with many grandchildren. This meant fabrics had to be durable and comfortable, yet luxurious. Knocking down a wall that divided the family room and kitchen, created one open space which allowed for more flow and was better for large family gatherings. A full wall of cabinetry was designed with solid doors on the lower level, to hide wires and glass uppers, to protect sculptures, art and books.
Looking for the perfect statement piece, the design team created a 12-foot island covered in a stunning super-white quartzite with waterfall ends. Mixing traditional and modern design, a slab door was added to the white framed cabinetry. By keeping the kitchen mostly white, the island became the main focal point and was able to stand out more.
Looking for a bright and fresh space to relax in, the clients wanted their bedroom to be an oasis. A luxurious channel tufted king bed was added to offer a soft place to land at the end of a long day, while oversized nightstands were placed on both sides of the bed to provide extra storage. Custom millwork created a symmetrical space where the homeowners could showcase their collectables and to fully complete the bedroom, a lounge area was added to provide a relaxing space where they could spend time together.
After undergoing a full main and second floor renovation, this home was transformed from a dark and dated house into a bright, modern, and timeless home.
